Dakar, Senegal – GALERIE ATISS DAKAR participated in the 2023 edition of the contemporary African art fair 1-54, held in New York. Following its participation in the 1-54 fair in London in 2021, GALERIE ATISS DAKAR presented a selection of artworks by African artists. Taking place from May 19 to 21, 2023 (with a VIP and press preview on May 18), this year’s 1-54 African contemporary art fair was held in West Harlem’s bustling Manhattanville Factory District, specifically at 439 W. 127th St.
A long-standing presence in the art world since its creation by Aïssa Dione on the occasion of the Biennale de Dakar, in 1996, GALERIE ATISS DAKAR has always supported and promoted contemporary artists from Senegal, Africa and the rest of the world.
The gallery offers to observe the spiritual and spatio-temporal roots of the works of five African artists who create spaces of creation and resistance within their community. From the lands of Senegal, Congo, Rwanda, and South Africa, this exhibition offers a powerful testimony on the relationship to the other and to our environment, as well as the modes of resilience and protection thought out and anchored in the collective.
