Senegalese visual artists Camara Gueye and Mandoye MBENGUE draw inspiration from their own lives. Camara Gueye remembers his first sketches as a child, in charcoal. Many black strokes and strong lines have remained a constant in his work. With a keen interest in social themes, Camara Gueye multiplies aesthetic correspondences in his hieratic portraits, tirelessly appropriating familiar drawings and incorporating elements from his everyday environment.
Mandoye MBENGUE, based in Bargny, transforms her personal challenges into figurative works using a literary approach. She explores memory, tradition and the relationship between man and his environment, with a focus on Lebou rituals. Their art offers a deep connection with the spatial and inner universe, telling unique stories and experiences.
