Born in 1981 in Burkina-Faso, Hyacinthe Ouattara received training in live model drawing, graffiti and painting before embarking on a personal approach within the artist collective “Les Autres Yeux” and contributing to the creation and development of the Hangar 11 workshop in Ouagadougou.
In addition to pictorial artistic research, he explores different mediums: installation, video and photography, performance. Ouattara invests in the search for a true expression through the elements which surround him. He approaches painting as a liberating and therapeutic force and takes a very particular interest in the feelings released by his works.
His paintings explore an expressionism rooted in primitivist, human, often ghostly forms. These are spontaneous, gestural, with a human character, and perhaps child-like. As for his installations, they combine different media, everyday objects (often in coloured plastic) taken out of their daily context, large free form canvases, video and photography, sound … they take over space in its three dimensions.
