Traoré is a young painter with a background in sculpture. The gestures and flows of his paintings encourage a discovery, which for the artist is a discovery not of size or grandeur but of the spirit.

Traoré’s works on fabric feature embryonic animal-like forms, that appear both personified and other-worldly. His work is accentuated by his research into fabrics, and is often characterised by a simplicity and consistency in the use of colour, yet this is juxtaposed with layers of detail that draws the eye for further enquiry. The work is suggestive of an emphasis on the spirit and essence of things, the energy transmitted, above notions of name and materiality.

A graduate of the National Institute of Art (INA) and of the Balla Fasséké Kouyaté Conservatory of Bamako (CAMM-BFK), Moussa Traore has been developing his practice alongside the artists of L’atelier Badialan 1 (AB1) – the artist collective founded in Bamako. This adventure has enabled him to be in contact with several styles of research and with renowned artists who he counts as mentors. Amongst these are the founder of AB1, Amadou Sanogo, its director Abdoulaye Konate, the Beninese master Ludovic Fadairo, and Dany Leriche.

Selected group exhibitions include:  Untitled, Galerie Atiss Dakar, Dakar, Senegal (2020); A la une, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (2019); Collective exhibition of L’atelier Badialan for Dak’Art 2018.
