Born in Kaffrine (Senegal) in 1990, Malick Welli started photography whilst at college, taking family portraits to earn some money on the side. He is self-taught and developed his photographic technique while pursuing business studies before becoming a professional photographer.

A portraitist before anything else, Welli would create his earlier series in a medium-size format in black and white, before moving into colour, with pigmented prints.

Alongside his personal projects, Welli also works as an independent documentary photographer for the international press, magazines such as Forbes Afrique or Monocle.
